October is fun. Prepping for halloween, decorating costuming and the sheer sugared frenzy that happens on 10/31.
I think November
is my favorite month though. After all, it’s got Thanksgiving which is
a holiday all about the harvest and sharing with friends and family.
There is no gifting pressure, just good food and fellowship. Its also
the time to start baking for the other winter holidays.
It’s sometimes easy to get in a funk
when the weather starts to turn. Gone are the days of shorts and
t-shirts, gone are the vacations associated with summer. The time
changes, our eating habits change and we pull in closer to home. To
change your outlook I reccomend taking advantage of the season. Focus
on the social aspect when you’re feeling less pressured.
First look into the events going on
around town. Is there a museum that you havent been to yet? When’s the
last time you visited the local historical society? Even the zoo can be
fun on a dreary November day.
It’s also a great time to invite friends
over. With the excitment of Autumnal foods, now is the perfect time for
a potluck. Bring a favorite casserole or chili, a few divine sweets and
you’re set. In November A Chili party is a grand idea, unlike March where Chili’s been on the rotation everywhere a couple of times.
What am I doing this November? Here are my ideas to start
- Organizing a Cookbook exchange and planning a cookie exhange
- Visiting my favorite parks to see how the weather affects them.
- Having friends over for dinner
- Arranging movie nights
- Having a potluck
- Arranging a game day
- Visiting the Henry Art Gallery
- Visting MOHAI (Museum of History and Industry)
