Seattle Yarn Expo

Filed under: Travel — Seattlejo at 3:43 am on Sunday, April 15, 2007

Today Melissa, Phinnia and I wandered down to the Seattle Yarn and Fiber Expo. While the show was a little smaller this year then previous years it was still a lot of fun. I got to meet Megan of NotMartha fame. i was seduced by yarns from Angora Valley, and drooled over drop spindles from Crown Mountain farms.

The item that had me drooling was an old time sock machine. The folks from Angora Valley had a number of socks knit using their machine and not only were they pretty, but they were functional! As much as i like knitting socks they always seem a bit too loose and just not very sturdy. They examples the Angora Valley folks had done with their lace wing yarn were very sturdy and just very cool. The average machine sells for $1975. Not something I’ll be getting into any time soon.

All in all I picked up a little inspiration, a little bit of yarn that was gifted to me, and a desire to pick up spinning and  do some needle felting.  I still need to have a naked needle party and share out some of my yarn, I also need to  get a new weighted hem for the ISM/USM  and I need to try more advanced patterns.

Oh and next year? I’ll set aside some money for the classes at the expo, they seem to be the real draw.

Beauty on Campus

On Friday I took lunch and headed to the herb gardens on campus.

I wandered around for a while, earning my walking points for the day and snapping pictures. The gardens are still in their winter slumber for the most part. Mulch topped beds ready to be worked by students in the horticulture programs. Some hearty plants were still green, and some recently worked beds were brown and musty with that fresh compost smell. And above it all,

They are always beautiful.

I don’t want to be world famous.

Why blog?

I got an email encouragin me to come to PostieCon 07 ” the premier blogging conference for Bloggers looking to become the next Internet Celebrity”

I dont want to be the next Internet Celebrity. While I do enjoy the small audience I have I know that I don’t have a large following by any means, and I think I’ll keep it that way.

I was recently asked why I blogged. The easy answer is because I had a request from someone back in Chicago to keep him updated on what I was up to. He enjoyed reading my site but wanted more. That was the first Chicagojo blog. From there I’ve merged sites, split sites and tried a little bit of everything. I have 3 independent blogs, each with a focus of some sort (this is the one with the broadest focus). I have one active one  on Livejournal, (and a half dozen inactive on Livejournal) one on Vox and I still maintain an account on blogger, I have accounts on Myspace, Tribes, Friendster, Multiply , Orkut.

So many blogging oportunities, one little mind. Do I have that much of importance to say? Sometimes.  Usually it’s me just trying to share my thoughts/activites with the rest of the world.  I dont want to be famous, I just want to have my own little soapboxes to dance around.

Burn Baby Burn

The quarter ended last week, and I waited on pins and needles. Would I pass? Had I done well enough to finish or would I have to repeat it? It was a rough quarter, and I really didnt put enough effort into it in the beginning. In the end it came back to bite me as I really didnt have enough time at the end of the quarter to give the material proper attention. I ended up binging and purging on my math, I’d suck in as much information as possible then I’d go in on saturday morning and purge the information out as accuratly as possible.

The score came in Tuesday. 2.3. This meant that the books were now obselete, and that burning could commence.

A was more then happy to include a couple of text books of his own. See?
